The Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State has mourned the passage of the former President Muhammadu Buhari who passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.
The Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, speaking on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, staff, students, and wider polytechnic community expressed the profound grief following the death of former President Buhari.
In a statement by the institution’s acting Director, Centre for Information, Communication and Public Relations (CICPR), Mr. Sunday Adepọju, the Rector expressed the grief on the passage of the late President, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, as the President under whose leadership the Polytechnic was established.
In the statement, Dr. Abdul-Hameed said, “The Federal Polytechnic Ayede was on Sunday, following the demise of His Excellency, late President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) who breathed his last on Sunday.
“Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration made a significant contribution to technical and vocational education in Nigeria by establishing the Federal Polytechnic Ayede in February 2021. Under his leadership, six new federal polytechnics, including Ayede, were approved.
“Buhari also authorised the appointment of distinguished professionals, including Professor Dakas C. J. Dakas (SAN) as the pioneer Governing Council Chairman and other members as well as myself as the pioneer Rector, bringing strong leadership and administrative credibility to the fledgling institution.
“The polytechnic quickly became the fastest‑growing among its peers.
“Here at Federal Polytechnic Ayede, we mourn the passing of our founding benefactor, celebrating his transformative contribution while pledging to continue blazing the trail in technical education, an enduring tribute to Buhari’s vision.
“As the world leaders mourn Buhari’s exit, I, on behalf of the Chairman of our Governing Council, Hon. Yakubu Dati (FNIPR) and other members, Management, staff, students and the entire Polytechnic Community commiserate with his family; President and Commader-in-Chief of the Apes Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), and the ciuntry at large.
