About us
The Statistics department is an academic department within the School of
Science Technology at Federal Polytechnic Ayede. Led by the pioneer Acting Head of
Department, [Insert Name], the department is dedicated to providing quality education
and research in the field of statistics.
Currently, the department comprises 8 full-time academic staff and 4
non-academic staff members. Upholding firm discipline and integrity, the department
emphasizes professional conduct in line with the ethical code of the institution.
Students are expected to dress corporately and maintain professionalism both inside and
outside the classroom, while adhering to the rules and regulations of the polytechnic.
Program: National Diploma (ND) in Statistics
Goal and Objectives
Goal: The National Diploma programme is designed to produce
diplomates capable of applying statistical knowledge in solving real life problems.
Objectives: Diplomates of this programme should be able to:
- Perform Data Analysis
- Use relevant Statistical Package
- Proficient in Data Visualization and Data Analytics
- Use programming languages such as R and Python Programming
Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for the National Diploma in Statistics program include:
- Five credit level passes in GCE “O” level, Senior Secondary School Certificate
(SSCE), NECO, and NABTEB at not more than two sittings.
- The five subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and two other
subjects chosen from Economics, Geography, Further Mathematics, Chemistry,
Biology/Agricultural Science, or other relevant subjects.
A pass in Physics is compulsory for Statistics.
Program Duration & Structure
The ND in Statistics full-time program spans a period of four (4) semesters of
classroom, laboratory, and workshop activities in the Polytechnic, along with a period
(3-4 months) of Supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). Each semester
consists of:
- 15 contact weeks of teaching, including recitation, practical exercises, quizzes,
tests, etc.
- 2 weeks for examinations and registration.
